Day 1

Arrive Halifax

Your Maritimes discovery begins in Halifax, Nova Scotia's historic capital and one of the oldest port cities in North America, founded in 1749. Upon arrival, take your first look at the Halifax waterfront, where colourful boardwalk buildings, tall ships, and the scent of salt air set the tone for the week ahead. This is a day to settle in, get your bearings along the harbour, and perhaps enjoy a seafood dinner overlooking the water before the journey through Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick truly begins tomorrow.

Day 2

Halifax → Peggy's Cove → Cape Breton

After breakfast, you'll head southwest to Peggy's Cove, one of the most photographed fishing villages in Canada, where a candy-striped lighthouse perches atop wave-battered granite boulders shaped by glaciers thousands of years ago. Wander the rugged shoreline and the tiny working harbour lined with lobster traps before continuing northeast toward Cape Breton Island, connected to the mainland by the Canso Causeway. The drive introduces you to Nova Scotia's dramatic coastal scenery as a prelude to the island's famous Highlands that await over the coming days.

Day 3

Cabot Trail

Today is dedicated entirely to the Cabot Trail, a 298-kilometre loop widely regarded as one of the most scenic drives in the world, winding through Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Cliffside lookouts reveal sweeping views where the highlands meet the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean, with whales sometimes visible offshore in season. Cape Breton → Prince Edward Island

After breakfast, you'll leave Cape Breton and travel toward Prince Edward Island, crossing the Confederation Bridge, at 12.9 kilometres, one of the longest bridges in the world spanning ice-covered water. The crossing offers striking views over the Northumberland Strait's deep blue waters before delivering you onto Canada's smallest and most pastoral province, famous for its red sand beaches, rolling farmland, and rich Acadian and Mi'kmaq heritage. You'll settle into Charlottetown, PEI's charming capital, ready to explore the island's storybook landscapes over the following day.

Day 5

Prince Edward Island

Spend the day exploring Charlottetown and PEI's iconic red-sand coastline, a landscape whose iron-rich soil gives the island its distinctive rust-coloured beaches and fields. Wander Charlottetown's historic downtown, birthplace of the Canadian Confederation in 1864, before heading out to the island's dramatic coastal dunes, lighthouses, and fishing villages. This gentle, unhurried island, celebrated as the setting for Anne of Green Gables, offers a slower pace after the dramatic mountains of Cape Breton, with fresh Malpeque oysters and PEI potatoes never far from any meal.

Day 6

PEI → Bay of Fundy

Today you'll cross back over the Confederation Bridge into New Brunswick, bound for the Bay of Fundy, home to the highest tides on Earth, rising and falling by as much as 16 metres twice a day. Your destination is the Hopewell Rocks, dramatic flowerpot-shaped sea stacks sculpted over millennia by the relentless tidal action. Timing your visit around the tide schedule reveals two entirely different landscapes, towering rock formations rising from the ocean floor at low tide, and islands surrounded by water just hours later at high tide.

Day 7

Bay of Fundy → Halifax departure

On your final day, you'll make the return drive east through New Brunswick and back into Nova Scotia toward Halifax for your departure. Use the journey to reflect on a week that carried you from Peggy's Cove's wave-worn granite to the Cabot Trail's highland cliffs, PEI's red-sand shores, and the world's highest tides at the Bay of Fundy. Arriving back in Halifax, you'll have closed a loop through four Atlantic provinces, each with its own distinct landscape, history, and Maritime hospitality.
