East Coast Explorer
Toronto, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, and Quebec City along the St. Lawrence — Canada's historic east.
View itinerary →Your journey begins with a scenic drive north from Halifax to Cape Breton Island, crossing the Canso Causeway that has linked the island to mainland Nova Scotia since 1955. You'll arrive in Baddeck, a picturesque lakeside village on the shores of Bras d'Or Lake best known as the final home of inventor Alexander Graham Bell. Enjoy a free afternoon and evening exploring the village's waterfront shops, restaurants, and the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, soaking in the relaxed pace of small-town Cape Breton before tomorrow's mountain drive.

Cabot Trail (Cape Breton Highlands NP), NS
Cabot Trail (Cape Breton Highlands NP), NSToday is devoted to the legendary Cabot Trail, a 298-kilometre loop through Cape Breton Highlands National Park widely considered one of the most scenic drives on Earth. Stop at the trail's main lookouts, where highland cliffs plunge dramatically toward the Gulf of St. Lawrence, offering sweeping views and, in season, a chance to spot whales offshore. After a full day soaking in the highlands' rugged beauty and Acadian and Scottish Gaelic culture, your coach begins the return drive south to Halifax.

Yes — the Cabot Trail loop is a full day of scenic but winding roads, which is why we build in an overnight in Baddeck rather than attempting it in a single day from Halifax.
It's the same trail, but this is a standalone overnight from Halifax, separate from the multi-day Maritimes loop.
Late spring through early fall, when the Cabot Trail and Cape Breton Highlands National Park are fully open and at their most scenic — early-to-mid October also brings strong fall colour.
