Itinerary

Day 1

Vancouver → Kamloops

Set out from Vancouver and climb the Coquihalla Highway, one of the most dramatic mountain passes in the country, cutting through the granite peaks of the Coast Mountains. The forested coastal scenery gradually gives way to the drier, sun-baked hills of the BC interior as you descend toward Kamloops, a high-desert city where the North and South Thompson Rivers converge, your overnight stop before pushing deeper into the Rockies tomorrow.

Day 2

Kamloops → Yoho National Park

Continue east on the Trans-Canada Highway into Yoho National Park, a compact but spectacular slice of the Rockies packed with glacier-fed lakes and thundering waterfalls. Stop at brilliant turquoise Emerald Lake, the curious rock formation of the Natural Bridge carved by the Kicking Horse River, and Takakkaw Falls, one of Canada's tallest waterfalls, its name meaning "it is magnificent" in the Cree language. Overnight in the mountain town of Golden, gateway to the park.

Day 3

Kootenay National Park → Radium Hot Springs

Head south through Kootenay National Park, where the highway winds through Marble Canyon, a narrow limestone gorge carved by rushing meltwater and crossed by a series of footbridges offering dramatic views straight down into the chasm. The drive continues through burned and regenerating forest that tells its own story of wildfire and renewal, finishing at Radium Hot Springs, where you can relax in mineral-rich thermal pools ringed by the peaks of the Columbia Valley.
